We Rise Center brought together young people, decision-makers and community stakeholders in Irbid to discuss six community challenges and select four priority issues for development into practical youth-led initiatives.
We Rise Center for Sustainable Development, in partnership with the British Council, held a Collective Decision-Making event in Irbid Governorate under the Youth Connect – Podcast project. The event was held under the patronage of Imad Al-Azzam, Chairman of the Greater Irbid Municipality Committee.
The event brought together representatives of government institutions and departments, municipal committees, universities and civil society organizations, along with activists and community stakeholders from across Irbid Governorate.
In his opening remarks, Al-Azzam emphasized the importance of engaging young people in local decision-making and strengthening their role in community development. He also highlighted the municipality’s commitment to listening to young people, supporting their ideas and helping transform their initiatives into projects that benefit local communities.
Amer Abu Dalo, General Director of We Rise Center for Sustainable Development, presented the Center’s work in political empowerment, economic empowerment and digital media. He emphasized that sustainable development begins within communities and depends on people’s participation in identifying their needs and developing appropriate solutions.
The event marked a key stage of the Youth Connect – Podcast project. It enabled participating youth teams to present six community issues they had researched and analyzed and to discuss them directly with decision-makers and relevant stakeholders.
The “Your Awareness Is Your Safety” team addressed the rise in online fraud and extortion, while the “National Frequencies” team discussed the weakening connection between young people and Jordanian national identity.
The “Hidden Pressure” team examined anxiety and psychological pressure among Yarmouk University students. The “From Project to Brand” team presented the challenges facing young entrepreneurs in Irbid Governorate.
The “Tell It Right” team addressed media coverage of issues affecting persons with disabilities, while the “Safe Steps” team discussed inadequate road safety measures around schools in Bani Obeid.
At the conclusion of the event, attendees voted to select four priority issues for development into community initiatives. “From Project to Brand” received 26 votes, “Safe Steps” received 23 votes, “Tell It Right” received 20 votes, and “Your Awareness Is Your Safety” received 19 votes.
The event provided a participatory platform through which young people, community members and institutional stakeholders jointly identified local priorities and discussed pathways for turning youth-led ideas into practical community interventions.
